The Spoleto Arts Festival – Charleston, SC
The Spoleto Arts Festival is going into its 38th season in Charleston, South Carolina. The Spoleto Arts Festival was started in 1977 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, Christopher Keene, and many others who were looking to create an American partner to their annual Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy.
The City of Charleston was an ideal location, because of its perfect blend of historic churches, theatres, and auditoriums. Charleston was also a key city because of its small metropolitan atmosphere, and commitment to build an enthusiastic infrastructure.
Over the past thirty-years, Spoleto has been home to over 200 American premieres. The Spoleto Arts Festival’s mission is to bring different forms of the arts in the highest caliber, and to give inspiring young artist opportunities to showcase their talents.
